Known for being family oriented destination, The Tweetsie Railroad is known for their Wild Western theme park conveniently located between Boone and Blowing Rock in North Carolina. In addition to the railway this park features other attractions and amusement rides geared towards families with children.
The Tweestie Railroad began their excursion train rides in 1957 aboard the famous #12 steam locomotive and has been operating ever since. The season typically runs beginning the beginning of May until the last weekend in October and the park also open on the weekends during the spring and fall including daily from Memorial Day weekend through the end of August.
Additionally the park is open in the fall on Friday and Saturday nights in October for their famous Ghost Train Halloween Festival. Other fall special events include Railfan Weekend in September which is a tribute to the history of the narrow-gauge locomotives and rolling stock. They have a fantastic Fourth of July celebration with one of the best fireworks shows to celebrate America.
The Tweetsie Railroad is also host to a Day Out with Thomas which is held annually.
