Golden, Colorado
The Colorado Railroad Museum is located in Golden, Colorado situated on some 15 acres near Clear Creek flows between North and South Table Mountains. Established in 1959 during the states pioneering narrow gauge mountain railroads, the museum showcases a large collection of narrow gauge rolling stock. This is the only surviving standard gauge steam locomotive from the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.
The mission of the Colorado Railroad Museum is to preserve the interest in railroads and railroading history. This is accomplished by preserving, acquiring and displaying to the general public, items including railroad equipment, photographs, books, paper records, art work showcasing Rocky Mountain area railroads. There is an extensive history covered from the period of 1860 to the present.
Colorado Railroad Museum offers special events like a Day Out with Thomas, Steam Up Days, German Heritage Festival, Galloping Goose Rides, Buffalo Bill Wild West Days, and Colorado Wine & Music Train. Children can take a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine, meet Sir Tophamm Hatt and enjoy activities including storytelling, music and more.
