The museum also features the Boone Library which is housed in a 100 year old L & N freight station that is named for its loyal member and benefactor, William Bill Boone. This station was moved originally located in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham and later moved to the museum. This building holds office space including media such collections of vintage maps, timetables, track diagrams and much more. Interestingly there is a railroad car attached to the library which holds a significant collection of technical manuals easily covering a hundred years of documentation.
The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum is also home to the annual Day Out with Thomas event held once a year. This is the only museum in Alabama which hosts this event with Thomas.
